Everybody knows I hate everything. But most folk don’t know that love (L-U-V) is my middle name. Give me something to wrap my heart around and I can love with the best of ‘em.
Low expectations are the watchwords of today’s musical punters, all too eager to swallow any deep fried codswallop that comes along. Devoid of memorable melodies, engaging lyrics, toe-tapping dynamics; all mere afterthoughts to the journeymen hacks currently trodding the boards.
So what makes The Mad Combo any different? I know five good reasons.
Following the path less traveled along forgotten byways, they leave a trail of breadcrumbs straight to the door of the wizened forest witch of Tottenham. Once there, the mad MC’s freely indulge in augmented substances. Because they can.
Now suitably attuned, can you feel the tumblers spin while the Combo find the combination to your locker and your mind? Slippery exhortations from behind the mirror are heard as you recline on the analyst’s couch. Lost, in a sense, though definitely feeling no pain.
Hanging on the clothesline out back are the crisp poetic sheets of yesterday’s news, freshly laundered to sleep in tonight. Traipse through a freshly scented labyrinth of wistful regret until you find the clothespins clipped to your own auto-repeat function. Rinse and repeat.
By now you may have noticed the Mad Combo have an unerring knack of making rejection sound laughable, if not downright pleasurable. Or at least they act that way. An Oscar-worthy performance for a supporting role in a musical comedy, for sure.
The MC IV were last spotted in a blinding snowstorm about 45 minutes southeast of Thibodaux, Louisiana. However, rumours abound of sightings around Deadwood and other points northeast of Vegas. Keep looking and we’ll find them eventually. Use your con-con-concentration, baby....
